Alistair’s work is an exploration of form and proportion in dialogue with the clay itself. The abstract decor is an expression of a search for liberty.
This exploration is coupled with a meditative practice, the aim of which is to approach the work from a space without judgment or fear of judgment. A search for sincerity, an emptying of the mental pollution that may be a hindrance to the creative process. Creating this void allows him to work more instinctively, enabling the pieces to come into being “through” him.
The resulting artwork becomes a reflection of the journey within. A means to an end, rather than a conclusion in and of itself.
